A large crowd gathered at the school December 14 for the annual Christmas Concert. Song was in the air, the horns were tuning and as the lights lowered, so did the excited chatter of the audience. After many years the program was once again held on the stage where Christmas lights twinkled and footlights were glowing. The fifth grade band performed Jingle Bells and Good King Wenceslas for the opening numbers and were followed by the sixth grade band with Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, Ode to Joy and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The two groups then joined forces for Holiday Sampler. Next up was the BHS band who played Deck the Halls, Sing Noel, I Saw Three Ships and Up on the Housetop.
Members of the fifth and sixth grade bands are: Rebecca Gray, Tessa Hockaday, Eric Morgan, Colin Winkie, Remington Woodcock, Mally Gardner, Jose Torres, Braden Allred, Christian Bell and Ethan Webber and were assisted by Keeley Verhagen. The BHS Band Roster included Kylee Allred, Shaylee Walker, Megan Sayers, Hunter Woodcock and Jayden Lewis.
And then it was time for the elves...or maybe it was Pre-K through 2nd. The elf hats looked good on the little singers. Songs included Jingle Bells, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty the Snowman and Up on the Housetop. Students in Pre-K and K are Caleb Alexander, Braden Bills, Cory Booth, Calvary Cole, Jase Cole, Ally Farr, Isabella Moore and Brayden White. First and Second Graders are Brooklyn Cashall, Adian DeJesus, Eyezick Moore, Sydney Jamesen, Isabell Latimer, Gannon Moore and Kimberlyn Stark.
The stage cleared and the next arrivals were the third and fourth graders who performed Deck the Halls and Jingle Bell Rock. This group of singers included Hali Allred, Alyssa Bell, Krystal Bell, Kimber Cole, Austin Sayers, Rachel Skinner and Dylan Vos.
Jazz hands anyone? The fifth and sixth graders not only have them but they aren't afraid to use them while singing Let it Snow and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. This group included Braden Allred, Christian Bell, Mally Gardner, Rebecca Gray, Tessa Hockaday, Eric Morgan, Jose Torres, Jr, Keelie Verhagen, Ethan Weber, Collin Winkie and Remington Woodcock.
The Junior High Chorus of Kylee Allred, Megan Sayers, Jayde Keithley, Hunter Woodcock and Jayden Lewis sang It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, and then were joined on stage by all of the other performers as well as faculty and staff members to sing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Feliz Navadad and the traditional finale Silent Night in which they were joined by the audience.
Breckenridge is delighted to welcome our new music instructor Sam Gaddy, who joined us mid-semester and with the excellent help of faculty and staff, managed to pull off a marvelous program which has provided the town with so much "buzz" this week. Even though he's been very busy coaching student performers at ballgames and other events, as well as producing, directing and playing piano for this concert, he did take time to provide this note. "When I started my job at Breckenridge R-1, there were only six weeks left until the concert. With the amount of hard work, dedication, concentration, and support from students, faculty, staff, and board members, this Christmas program ended up being a huge success. My talent comes from being a music education major at Central Methodist University. My main instrument is percussion, but I also took voice and piano lessons throughout my collegiate career. Through my preparation, I was able to create a hard working atmosphere for these students. They enjoy coming to music class, and I have enjoyed having them in music class. They come every single day ready to
work,” wrote Gaddy.
