It was exciting to see so many participants out for Walking Day sponsored by the Caldwell County Health Department and locally by The Gettin Place.
Walkers went to the cemetery, and it would have been a lovely day for walking had it been a bit less breezy. Ages varied from early elementary to geezer. Admittedly, as a certified geezer, I didn't see the walk as a competitive race and spent quite a lot of time wandering around discussing geneology, stone styles (Jim "Crack Corn" Gray's stone was one we made special note of) and checking out prospective sites. We geezers were walking (and ambling) for half an hour obviously not for distance.
Speaking of geezers, the 7th Annual BHS Alumni Basketball Tournament (which Emmalee Oliver coordinates extremely well) was held and there is a possibility some of those players are beginning to feel they are approaching geezer-hood...especially if you talk to them a day or two after the event.
The local election came and went and three or four days later most of us still didn't know the outcomes. Although partial returns were listed in the Newspress, there were a number of write-ins this year. Times have changed. I remember a few years ago (few being anything less than 20) when representatives from the local newspapers and radio stations went to the courthouse in the evening and waited for results then reported the early numbers and again reported when the other ballots were all tabulated. Times do change and even technology (and gossip) didn't provide all the answers we were seeking this time around.
A 'stealth' pickup has been sighted and discussed and of course we know that just because it's painted flat black that doesn't mean is actually 'stealth'. On the other hand, not everyone has noticed it. This was
the week for the recycling trailer to be in town. I like that!
The Township has employed a new road man but the City is still accepting bids for mowing the parks. The Gettin' Place does have diesel even though gasoline is somewhat problematic these days.
Carol Phares has a lovely yellow magnolia in bloom this week. I didn't even know they came in yellow! Well worth a drive around the town to see it.
