Wolverines defeat Lady Cats 27-20

On Thursday evening the Lady Cats traveled to Maysville to face the Lady Wolverines. The night started with a four quarter JV game at 4:30. The Lady Cats JV team had five players to face the 11 player roster of the Lady Wolverines JV. 

First quarter got off to a slow start with the Lady Cats scoring 2 to the 3 of the Lady Wolverines. Second quarter saw the Lady Cats score 2 again but the Lady Wolverines scored 14 taking a 17 to 4 lead at half. Anna Clariday went to half time break with 4 fouls. Third quarter the Lady Cats got back in stride scoring 6 to the Lady Wolverines 4. Fourth quarter the Lady Cats doubled their score by sinking 5 baskets. The Lady Wolverines were only able to score 6 but it was enough to keep a 7 point lead to win the game 27 to 20.

Leading scorer for the Lady Cats was Hannah bills with 6, Anna Clariday, Lydia Moon, and Tori Smith each scored 4 and Karder DeBolt scored 2. Lydia Moon scored 5 rebounds, Hannah Bills and Anna Clariday each had 2 and Tori Smith 1. Karder DeBolt had 1 assist and 1 steal. Anna Clariday played the second half without getting her fifth foul.

In the Varsity game the Lady Cats got off to a 15 to 11 lead in the first quarter with Mallory Hughson hitting 2 threes and 1 layup and Maggie Phillips hitting 1 three and Madison Mallory sinking all 4 of her freethrows. Second quarter Madison put in 2 threes and a  jumpshot, Mallory had a three and 2 free throw and Kelsey Stone and Katie Owen each with one from the field for 17 points. The Lady Wolverines scored 14. The Lady Cats took a 32 to 25 lead into the locker room at half. The Lady Wolverines came out a little stronger in the third quarter scoring 14 points to the Lady Cats 11. Fourth quarter it seemed the Lady Cats couldn't buy a bucket scoring only 5 points on a three from Maggie Phillips and a jumpshot from Madison Mallory. The Lady Wolverines scored 13, including 4 of 10 freethrows. The Lady Wolverines took the win 52 to 48. Madison Mallory was high point with 19, Mallory Hughson had 15, Katie Owen and Maggie Phillips had 6, and Kelsey Stone had 2. Mallory had 8 rebounds, Madison and Katie had 5 each, Maggie had 4 and Kelsey had 2.h 13 points and 5 rebounds.
