Church group cleans up Civil War cemetery

“We plan on making this a yearly service project,” said Benincosa. “It was exciting to work on the civil war cemetery and a wonderful opportunity to do community service."
Approximately 37 young women, ages 13 and 14, took it upon themselves to clean up the old Civil War cemetery west of Kingston. Those performing the service were primarily from Johnson County, KS and other counties such as Franklin and Allen in Kansas, and all are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from the Olathe, Kansas Stake.

Rachel Benincosa, director of the camp, said it was hard work and definitely more than expected. It was awesome to see these young women work so hard and to see the satisfaction on their faces for a job well done. “We plan on making this a yearly service project,” said Benincosa. “It was exciting to work on the civil war cemetery and a wonderful opportunity to do community service.”
