Hamilton man charged with possession of stolen property

A Hamilton resident was arrested Thursday morning, Sept. 3, following an investigation by officers of the Cameron Police Department of a suspicious vehicle near the city soccer field.
As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Tanner Barnes of Hamilton was charged by the Clinton County prosecuting attorney’s office with a Class C felony of receiving stolen property. Bond was set at $5,000.
According to a department news release, the dispatch center received a call at about 7:15 a.m. of a suspicious vehicle parked at the soccer fields at West Street. Officers responded to the area and made contact with two individuals in the vehicle, Barnes and a 15-year-old female from Cameron.
The police department was contacted by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, stating Barnes was wanted for questioning about a stolen gun. Officers on scene then discovered he was in possession of the stolen handgun.
The female juvenile was released to a parent.
