Marjorie E. Nickell
Marjorie E. (Marcusson) Nickell, age 86, of Hamilton, passed away July 16, 2016, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron.
Marjorie was born in Aurora, NE, May 12, 1930, the daughter of William and Goldie (Cohoon) Marcusson. In 1933 the family moved to Linn County. Marjorie graduated from Bucklin High School in 1947. During that summer, she attended one semester of college at Teacher’s College in Kirksville. Marjorie taught one year at Wyandotte Rural School in Linn County.
On August 1, 1948, Marjorie married Marvin R. Nickell. They moved to Columbia for one year while Marvin completed his degree at Missouri University. In 1949 they moved to Skidmore for six years. In 1955 Marvin and Marjorie moved to Hamilton. Marjorie worked as a secretary for Dannen Elevator and the J.C. Penney store. Later she was employed at JB/LB Insurance Agency in Cameron and Moore, Sallee, and Shepherd Insurance Agency in Chillicothe.
Marjorie loved her family and community; she shared her talents with all. Her cooking skills and her sewing ability were extraordinary, but her talent of china painting was phenomenal. Many times her pieces were prize winners at the Missouri State Fair.
Marjorie was a member of the Hamilton Federated Church and taught Sunday School in the nursery for a number of years. She belonged to Happy Hands China Painting in Hamilton, and she was a 50 year plus member of the Hamilton PEO, Chapter N. Also, she was a charter member of the former Literary Study Club.
In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tammy; sister, Mary Lou Anderson and foster daughter, Margie Madden.
Her survivors include her husband, Marvin, of the home; sons, Dr. Mike (Janet) Nickell of Olathe, KS and Dr. Steve (Debbie) Nickell of Stanberry; five grandchildren, Dr. Jason (Dr. Stacey) Nickell of Parkville, Leslie (Kurt) Harris of Kearney, Arianne (Gary) Kopf of Kansas City, Lauren (Jamy) Clark of Elkhorn, NE, and Dr. Jordan Nickell of Ft. Collins, CO; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Maurice Marcusson of Gainsville, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a wealth of friends.
Marjorie was a supportive and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, at the Hamilton Federated Church. A visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 25, at the church. There will be a private family graveside service at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton Federated Church or the Caldwell County Food Pantry.
