Earl Henderson
Earl Henderson, age 86, of Kansas City, MO, passed away, Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at the Cameron Missouri Veterans Home surrounded by family.
Earl was born on Aug. 31, 1930, the son of Earl and Elizabeth (Mussellman) Henderson in Independence. He grew up on a farm east of Polo and was a 1949 graduate of Polo High School. After graduation, he followed the wheat harvest from Texas to North Dakota, and that fall, he combined soybeans in Portageville.
Mr. Henderson courageously served our country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was stationed in Seattle, WA, and served overseas in Japan.
On July 2, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lucy Conner in Kansas City. He lived in Cameron and Polo before moving to Kansas City in 1983. He loved the outdoors and dogs, but hated dandelions. Earl also loved to clean. He enjoyed playing blackjack. Earl worked for Kansas City Power & Light for 39-1/2 years, retiring as a heavy machinery operator in 1995.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Randy Kris Henderson, in 1982.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 61 years, Lucy Henderson of the home; son, Richard Henderson (Janet) of Cameron; daughter, Rhonda Price (Larry) of Polo; grandsons, Shannon Henderson, Randy Robison (Jenny), Craig Henderson (Abbey); granddaughter, Brandy Jackson (Zeb); and great-grandchildren, Jared, Ryan, Peyton, Corbin, Riley, Kade and Kyle.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Full military honors will be performed at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. No formal funeral services are planned. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Cowgill Cemetery in Cowgill. Memorial gifts are suggested to Crossroads Hospice or Mothers Against Drunk Driving, in loving memory of Earl Henderson.
