Robert Deryl “Bob” Lobb
Robert Deryl “Bob” Lobb, age 91, of Norborne, MO, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at Ray County Hospital in Richmond.
Bob was born on May 12, 1929, in Kansas City, KS, the son of Hollis E. and Zella Mae (Lister) Lobb. He was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Stoner of Norborne on Sept. 2, 1951. She preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 1999. He was then united in marriage to Betty Lou Hayes of Norborne on June 26, 2004; she survives of the home.
Bob was reared and educated in Kansas City, KS, and graduated from the Lillis High School in 1948. He always said he was the only Protestant in the Catholic Church. After high school, he first attended Kansas University; then was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War, where he served in Germany. After the war, he returned to college at Warrensburg, where he received his Master’s in Education. While in college, he was a good athlete and lettered in football, basketball, and track. After college, Bob would go on as a public educator, coach, and school administrator. Before coming to Norborne High School in 1986, he was a teacher in Polo, Braymer, and Chillicothe schools. While at these various schools, he coached football, basketball, and track. He is still well known in the area for his successful teams during that time. Bob would go on to be Superintendent of the Norborne schools for 21 years and retired in 1989.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norborne, the Norborne Lion’s Club, the American Legion, and the Carrollton Country Club. Robert refereed college and high school basketball and football for many years. He had a passion for quail hunting and raising bird dogs. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, golfing, and anything outdoors. He was an avid KU basketball fan and a great storyteller.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Hayes; son, Robert Thomas “Tommy” (Julie) Lobb of Turney; three daughters, Jill Elaine (Mike) McClure of Norborne, Kimberly Ann (Mark) Templeton of Polo, and Lori Lea (Tom) Milligan of Richmond; 18 grandchildren, Scott (Julie) McClure, Travis McClure, Heather (T.J.) Busby, Brett McClure, Jennifer Hicks, Alexandria Templeton, Emily Templeton, Kara (Tyler) Meyer, Brenna Lobb, Logan Lobb, Avery Lobb, Haley (Cory) Rudolph, Dakota Croft, Sydney Croft, River Croft, Emily (Cory) Wagoner, Jordan Hayes, and Morgan (Oscar) Perez; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Schneiders of Independence; and two stepchildren, Vince (Kim) Hayes of Independence and Vicki Durbin of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and granddaughter, Abby Templeton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Norborne First Baptist Church. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Cowgill Cemetery.
