The family lived in various homes in the Daviess County and Caldwell County area, and moved to just south of the New York School in Caldwell County in 1940.

Caroline and Leon D. lived on a farm just east of Hamilton, until they moved to town in 1982. In addition to teaching, Caroline worked for Hamilton Schools as a cook for a few years. Caroline was known for her fine dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. She also made wedding dresses, prom dresses and even suits for the grandsons. She also made most of her own clothing and taught herself to hand quilt when she was in her mid sixties. She also made some ceramics.

She was able to remain in her home until March of 2011, when she moved to Hillcrest Manor in Hamilton. She remained there until her death.

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Janet) Richardson of Kidder and Dennis (Pat) Richardson of Hamilton; daughter, Beverly (Rick) Adams Hamilton; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Emmett and Tabitha Thompson); an infant brother, Samuel Thompson; another brother, Lee Roy Thompson; and two sisters, Charity Offutt and Nova Burnett; her husband, Leon D. Richardson; and an infant great-grandson, Garrett Mefford.
