James “Jim” E. Parton

James “Jim” E. Parton, age 94, of Gallatin, MO, passed away Wednesday, April 17, at his home. Jim was born on July 18, 1924, to James Arthur and Lula Mae (Wheeler) Parton in Weatherby. He was united in marriage to Mary Stevenson in March of 1945, and they had three children together. Jim later married Carol Elaine Berry Cope on August 7, 1986, in Miami, OK and gained three stepsons. 

Jim ran a Grade A dairy farm prior to being a truck driver, where he hauled livestock, produce, and grain from Texas to the east coast. He also held various jobs working for Gene Baker Allis Chalmers, Don Swafford Ford, the Missouri Highway Department, transported mobile homes out of Newton, KS, Stride Rite Shoe Factory, as well as custom bailing and combining. Jim retired in 1994.

Mr. Parton was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Karen Sall; one grandson; and a stepson, Eric Roach.  

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Steve Parton of Ogden, UT; daughter, Leanna Culver of Ankeny, IA; stepson, J.L. Roach of Kansas City; stepson, Glen Roach of South Bend, IN; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cope-Shambaugh Cemetery in loving memory of Jim Parton. Burial will be held at a later date at the Cope-Shambaugh Cemetery in Weatherby. Arrangements are under the direction of Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin.
