Joan Ruth (Connor) Baker

Joan Ruth (Connor) Baker, age 88, of Independence, MO, passed away on July 19, 2021, at the Rosewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Independence. She previously lived in Kansas City and Hamilton.

Joan was born on Aug. 16, 1932, in Nettleton, to Leo and Ina (Shaney) Connor. She graduated from the Hamilton High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Washington United Methodist Church in Independence.

She married Vernon Dale Baker on Nov. 26, 1950. He preceded her in death. Also preceding Joan in death were her parents; brothers, John, Leo Jr., Paul, and Ralph; and sister, Mary Lunczewski.

Survivors include her children, Katherine (Chuck) Canfield of Lee's Summit and David (Anna) Baker of Independence; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 2, at Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home on Aug. 2. Interment will be at the New York Cemetery, southeast of Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Washington United Methodist Church, 584 S. Arlington Ave., Independence, MO 64053.
