Joseph R. (Joe) Johnston
Joseph R. (Joe) Johnston, age 44, of Gallatin, formerly of Breckenridge, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, unexpectedly at his home. Joe was born June 15, 1974, the son of Raymond and Maylene (Bailey) Johnston in Chillicothe.
Joe was a 1992 graduate of Breckenridge High School. He served in the Air Force for 22 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. He graduated from the 80th recruit class of the Highway Patrol, and served as a Missouri State Trooper from 2003 until present. Joe was an active member of Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and was famously known as “Outlaw". His hobbies included fishing and hunting, as well as catering events; he was well known for his famous smoked/barbecue meats. He also made deer jerky and rice that was loved by all. He refused to share his recipes even with his family. He bought the motorcycle of his dreams, a Softtail Slim with/sidecar, so his best friend and constant companion Jed could always be with him. His greatest accomplishment in life was his son Ethan. Joe made many friends throughout his life, his warm smile, outgoing personality and his great sense of humor will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Key; paternal grandfather, George R. Johnston Sr.; grandparents, Delores Wall and Charles Asher, Mattie Treon and F. B. Bailey.
Joe is survived by his son Ethan Joseph Johnston of the home; parents, Raymond and Maylene Johnston of Breckenridge; sister, Shelly Salisbury of Gallatin; grandmother, Mrs. George R. Johnston, St. of the Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer; his service dog Jed and Molly; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gallatin R-V High School gymnasium. A visitation will be held at the gym on Wednesday, June 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Breckenridge with full Military Honors.
