Lawrence "Larry" J. Gregory

Lawrence "Larry" J. Gregory, a.k.a. “Short,” age 87, of Polo, MO, passed away on Feb. 15, 2021 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty. Larry was born on Jan. 14, 1934, in Altamont, the youngest son of Lawrence “Pete” and Martha Fern (DePuy) Gregory. On Jan. 14, 1967, he was united in marriage to Linda Murray at the United Methodist Church in Princeton.

Larry was raised in Altamont until he was 13 years old, when the family moved to Trenton. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1951. Shortly after graduation, Larry started his career with the Rock Island Railroad, which was later bought out by Chicago Northwestern, and finally Union Pacific Railroad, as a signal maintainer for over 44 years, retiring in 1995. He served as the mayor of Polo for several years, and on the board of directors for the Caldwell County Ambulance board for over 25 years. 

Larry enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his life. He would tell you that nothing was more important to him than his family. 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ronnie Gregory.  

Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; daughter, Deb (Rob) Grigsby of Mayview; three grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda) Dehn of Richmond, Jordan Dehn of Richmond, and Rachel Dehn (Stanley Rosekrans) of Mayview; five great-grandchildren, Carson, Isabella, and Oliver Rosekrans and Olivia and Chloe Dehn; his brother, Billy (Beverly) Gregory of Denver, CO; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.  

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Friends may also call from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be private. Flowers are welcomed and appreciated. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Caldwell County Cancer Coalition in care of the funeral home. Burial will be at Zimmerman Cemetery in Polo.
