Lena Lou Ella Cox

Lena Lou Ella Cox, age 94, of Hamilton, MO, passed away on Jan. 23, 2018, at the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Hamilton.

Lou Ella was born on Jan. 20, 1924, in Gallatin, to Sinyard M. and Elizabeth A. (Gann) McCrary. She graduated from the Breckenridge high school.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Gallatin and also attended the Hamilton Federated Church in Hamilton.

Lou Ella married James Warren Cox, Jr. on Jan. 10, 1944, in Caldwell County. She and her husband lived in the New York community after their marriage, and they also worked together farming and were custodians of the New York School. Later Lou Ella was the head of housekeeping at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Hamilton for 13 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Marshall McCrary; sister, Jean Redmond; and son, Larry Cox.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (Jim) Sweiven of Hamilton; seven grandchildren, Cash (Angie) Sweiven of Kansas City, Kristi (Eric) Bruning of Springfield, Eric (Lizette) Sweiven and Karin (Ken) Bourquin, both of Sacramento, CA, Laurel (Robert) Glendening, Kristen (James) Tucker, and Justin Cox, all of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter-in-law, Judy Cox Fortner of Oklahoma City, OK; and 12 great-grandchildren, Sienna, Luke and Annie Sweiven, Genna, Kaden and Christopher Bourquin, Emily and Erin Bruning, Katie Sweiven, and Robert J., Nicholas, and Logan Glendening.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, southeast of Hamilton. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home or to Three Rivers Hospice in care of Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton.
