Leona Lois Harris

Leona Lois Harris, age 105, of Independence, formerly of Cowgill, passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at Carmel Hills Nursing Center in Independence.
Lois was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Sidney, IA, the daughter of John E. and Elizabeth (Durfey) Morris. She was an active member of the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) in Independence.
She married Vance H. Harris on Oct. 13, 1929. To this union, four children were born. They made their home in eastern Nebraska until 1952, when they moved to Independence. They moved to Cowgill in July 1970, where Mrs. Harris resided for thirty years.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two daughters, Mary Lois Bryant and Margret Elizabeth Gill.
Survivors include children, Alvin L. Harris and Martha L. Bruner, both of Independence; eleven grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; thirty-two great great-grandchildren; a sister, Enid E. Bell of Clifton, CO; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Cowgill Cemetery in Cowgill. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com.
