Lois Jane James

Lois Jane James, age 82, of Chillicothe, MO, passed away on Jan. 11, 2017, at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

Lois was born on May 20, 1934, in Spickard in rural Grundy County, to Albert and Ethel Vaughn Coffman. She was a 1952 graduate of Spickard High School. She worked as a farm wife and housewife.

She attended the Methodist Church in Spickard when she was young and was a member of the Livingston County Extension Council.

On Feb. 28, 1954, she married William “Bill” Isaac James in Chillicothe. He preceded her in death.

Lois was also preceded by her parents; son, Franklin Leon James; three brothers, Dick, Jack and Bob; sister, Jenny; three infant siblings; and son-in-law, Pete Bethards.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Bethards of Chula and Mary Ann Clevenger (Ray) of Gallatin, seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Billy Ben Coffman of Trenton, Martha Stubbs and Beverly Draper, both of Warsaw, and Buck Coffman of Princeton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, at the Hamilton United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the Gallatin Missouri VFW Women’s Auxiliary Post #2172.
