Lowell D. Farmer

Lowell D. Farmer, age 94, of Polo, MO, passed away Nov. 6, 2017, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer. He was born on Sept. 12, 1923, the son of John and Ruth (Scott) Farmer in Cowgill. Lowell was a 1940 graduate of Polo High School. On Oct. 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Mildred Pollard in Kansas City, KS.

Lowell honorably served in the US Army from August 2, 1944, until he was honorably discharged on Oct. 22, 1946. He served in the Philippines and Korea while on active duty during World War II. Lowell was a farmer and truck driver. He bought his first semi in 1972 and retired from trucking in 2003, at the age of 80. Lowell served on the Cowgill R-6 Board of Education. He was a member of the Polo American Legion Post #557, and attended the Knoxville Community Church in Knoxville. Lowell always put his family first and he loved them dearly. He was a perfectionist and was insistent that things be done “the right way.” Lowell was also strict about being honest. 
Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred in 2012; parents, John and Ruth; and a brother, Donald Farmer.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Farmer (Brenda) of Cowgill; daughter, Deborah Thomas (Don) of Overland Park, KS; grandson Darren Farmer (Elaine) of Cowgill; grandson, Denton Farmer (Bobbi) of Rockville; granddaughter, Dana Sage (Dustin) of Springfield; and grandson, Wade Roberts (Amanda) of Marietta, GA; and ten great-grandchildren also survive. 

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at the Knoxville Community Church in Knoxville, with Rev. David Miller officiating. The family received friends Thursday evening at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Interment followed the services at Cowgill Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers were Mike Farmer, Randy Farmer, Darren Farmer, Denton Farmer, Dustin Sage, Gerald Olney and Mark Pollard. Honorary Pallbearers were Dean Webster, Bob Shaffer, Wade Roberts, Carl Pollard and Jim Curp. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Cowgill Cemetery Association or to the Knoxville Community Church, and may be left at or mailed to Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo, MO, 301 E. Elm St., Polo, MO 64671.
