Phyllis Ann (Myers) Richards Bennett
( July 30, 1932 - April 21, 2025 )
Phyllis Ann (Myers) Richards Bennett, aged 92, Cameron, MO., formerly of Hamilton, MO., passed away on April 21, 2025, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center, Cameron, MO.
Phyllis was born on July 30, 1932, in Corydon, Iowa, to Herman Keith Myers and Eva Foster Myers. She spent most of her school years in Ottumwa, Iowa. After graduating high school, she enrolled in NE MO State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO. After attending college for a year, she had enough credits to teach school so she began teaching first and second grades in Allerton, Iowa. After a year, she took a teaching job in Clio, Iowa. About this time, she began writing to a Navy seaman named Howard Richards. After writing letters back and forth for a year they arranged to meet when he was home on leave. Except he got cold feet and didn't show up! She was mad but her parents convinced her to give him a second chance! (Thank you Mom!)
Eventually they did meet in person and soon decided they wanted to get married when he was home on leave again. So they set a date of June 28, 1953. To their union were born 4 children: Lynette Goll, Paula (Dave) Rooney, Greg (Mia) Richards, and Leslie (Stephen) Hodge.
Some of their fondest memories include winter sled riding parties, family reunions at the Lake of the Ozarks, and going to the farm to visit Grandma and Grandpa.
Phyllis loved to play games with the kids and grandkids but she could be a sore loser! She always wanted to win at cards! Phyllis knew how to love her family well! She always wanted to keep the grandkids and the more, the merrier!
She will be greatly missed by grandkids: Chris (Heather) Goll, Jennifer Goll, Erin (Tony) Stiens, Scott (Taylor) Rooney, Jeff Rooney, Lanka (Joel) Luker, Jonathon Richards, Amber (Matt) Brice, Jan (Nathan) Adams, Hollie (Drew) Holcomb; and she enjoyed 19 great-grandchildren!
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, her 1st husband Howard, her 2nd husband Lowell Bennett, and she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
