Suzanne Hicks

Suzanne Hicks, age 85, beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, with her husband by her side. She was born on Dec. 13, 1935, in Braymer, the daughter of Odus and Vivian (Reeser) Clevenger.

During her Braymer High School years she was a member of the marching band as a drum majorette. Following graduation in 1953, she went to work at Farmland Industries and Celotex Corporation in Kansas City. On April 14, 1957, she married Travis D. Hicks of Breckenridge, to whom she was happily married 64 years.

While her girls were growing up she was an Avon lady, block mother, room mother, cheerleading coach and Girl Scout leader. Years later she took a position as receptionist where one of her daughters worked. She enjoyed bowling and won many league trophies. Suzanne was completely devoted to her family, was a proud homemaker, excellent cook, wonderful hostess and sharp dresser. She enjoyed travel, shopping, entertaining, gardening, crossword and jumble puzzles, music, true crime programs, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, and going out for special occasions.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Tanner Davis; and nephews, Kevin Null and Gerald Clevenger.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband; daughters, Lori Hicks and Lisa Davis (Scott), both of Overland Park; grandson, Quinton Davis; step-grandson, Johnathan Davis; step-granddaughter, Bailey Davis; brother, Gary Clevenger; sister, Nancy Null; nephews, Danny Clevenger, Brian Clevenger, and Jared Null; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

We wish to gather with family and friends for visitation and celebration of Suzie’s life on Sunday, Oct. 17, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Tuileries Clubhouse, 10801 Glenwood St., Overland Park, KS  66211. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice or the Society for Melanoma Research.
