William (Bill) Snyder
William (Bill) Snyder, age 87, of Jameson, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2015. He was born on the family farm near Hamilton on Aug. 5, 1928, the son of Earl Franklin and Lois Olivene (Eckelberry) Snyder.
He attended Prairie Ridge Country School, graduating from Hamilton High School in 1946. Bill proudly served his country in the US Army for two years during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan as a Corporal. After being discharged from the military, Bill returned back to Hamilton and began his farming career.
He was united in marriage to Beverly June Corbett on Oct. 25, 1955. To this union four children were born, William Dale, Douglas Blake, Susan Lynne, and Clinton Wayne. In 1969 the Snyder family moved to Gallatin and Bill purchased the Western Auto store. They moved to the southwest corner of the square and converted their business to Snyder’s True Value Hardware. The couple divorced in 1978. On Jan. 29, 1983, Bill was united in marriage to Leota (Brewer) Adkison and the couple lived on the farm near Jameson and continued to operate the hardware store and farm. Bill and Leota worked side by side in the store retiring July 17, 1997.
Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 285 in Hamilton and the Jameson Lions Club. He did custom combining in the early years and was a substitute mail carrier and did home repairs.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Clayton Snyder.
He is survived by his wife, Leota, of 32 years; his sons, Dale Snyder of Chillicothe, Doug Snyder of Ozark and Clinton Snyder of Troy, MT; daughter, Susan Nickell of Sedalia; stepsons, Steven Adkison, Robert Adkison and stepdaughter, Elaine Bohannon, all of Jameson; sister, Virginia Baker of Hamilton; three grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and 28 step great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 19 at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand River Cemetery in care of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin.
