Winona (Stretch) Payne
Winona (Stretch) Payne, age 85, of rural Kidder, MO, passed away on Nov. 13, 2016, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron. She had lived in rural Kidder since 2000, moving there from Haysville, KS.
Winona was born on Nov. 4, 1931, in rural Jamesport, to Elmer D. and Dora S. Dryer Stretch. She was a 1950 graduate of the Gallatin High School. She had worked as a receptionist and secretary for the Joe Wycoff Home Improvement Company for many years.
Winona was a member of the Hamilton Federated Church and the treasurer of the Caldwell County Library Board. She was very active in getting the county library set up and worked extremely hard attaining the bond issue which was passed to support it.
On Aug. 14, 1955, she married Hermal E. Payne in Gilman City. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded by her parents; daughter, Juanita Payne; and two sisters, Helen Morrow and Peggy Stephens.
Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Weir-Tuggle (Jim) of Elk Falls, KS; son, Ronald Payne of Haysville, KS; three grandchildren, Eugene Weir (Alesia) of Haysville, KS, Steven Weir (Rachel) of Wichita, KS, and Staci Terry (John) of Haysville, KS; two great-grandsons, Jayden and Jaxson Weir; four sisters, Doris Stretch of Cameron, Geraldine Sykes of Independence, Bonnie Schmedding of Phoenix, AZ, and Vivian Jones (Junior) of Lawson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. A family memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment to also be held later at the Gilman City Masonic Cemetery in Gilman City.
