On the Attack

Fellow Americans,

As you know by now, there were two recent mass shootings in our country.  The first one occurred on August 3,, 2019, inside a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas.  The suspect fired on unarmed shoppers, killing 20 and wounding as many.  When the police responded, the suspect surrendered and was arrested without further incident.  The second shooting occurred about 15 hours later and 1500 miles away in Dayton, Ohio.  A suspect opened fire on innocent people outside of a bar, killing nine and wounding two dozen, before being killed by police in a shootout at the scene.

My purpose for mentioning these atrocities is to focus your attention on what I believe is coming next.  The Democrats and the mainstream media are going to push for stricter gun control.  They will also blame President Trump and the Republicans for stirring up the hate and discontent that undoubtedly drove these two once innocent boys to violence!  I also wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they try to somehow link the El Paso shooting and America’s immigration laws!

So as not to let a crisis go to waste (quoting Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel), I suspect Democrat politicians will follow their usual playbook.   They will run to the nearest cameras to condemn “assault weapons”, ammunition, high capacity magazines, firearm manufacturers, the 2nd Amendment, the NRA, country folks, Republicans, and President Trump himself.  The mainstream media will gladly provide those cameras and talking points.  The media, with its global platform, will echo the politicians and publicly pressure them into action.  There will be an endless parade of victims telling of their horrific experiences and demanding the government do something.  I bet the politicians, especially the ones running for president, are already on their way to El Paso right now to bad-mouth President Trump and immigration officials, looking under every rock for ways to blame America’s “unfair and cruel” immigration policy!

I don’t know why these men killed as they did.  I do know that the weapons are not to blame.  A firearm is as harmless as its user, just as a knife is, or any tool in a toolbox.  As always, it took a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun.  Please don’t fall for the upcoming tidal wave of feigned fury and outrage.  Yes it was terrible, but we must support the 2nd Amendment and the rule of law, not destroy them.  May God bless the victims’ families, you, and the United States of America!
