Drunken Sailors

Fellow Americans,

As I filed my income taxes, I thought about all the ways the federal government is wasting our money.  To satisfy my curiosity, I visited the website Citizens Against Government Waste (www.cagw.org) on the internet (you know, what Al Gore invented).  I studied their “2017 Congressional Pig Book” and nearly had a conniption fit!  As if my blood pressure wasn’t high enough, I reviewed our national finances at www.usdebtclock.org.  I shouldn’t have!  The icing on the cake was when I heard President Trump and Congress talk about infrastructure spending!  Didn’t we learn anything from Barack Obama’s “shovel-ready jobs” debacle?  How is it possible to spend your way out of financial problems?

We all know you can’t spend what you don’t have, unless, of course, you borrow or print the money.  That’s why we have a $20.6 trillion national debt!  That amount of money doesn’t seem real, which is why it’s so easy to ignore.  Eventually, though, the bills must be paid.  We all have a responsibility to leave this country better than we found it for our posterity.  Sadly, we are leaving a disaster.

Since every little bit counts, maybe our federal government should:

·      Privatize the postal service and Amtrak

·      Stop giving our money to “green” energy companies

·      Stop giving our money to hostile foreign governments

·      Stop giving our money to Planned Parenthood

·      Stop giving our money to Indian reservations

These ideas don’t add up to much, but it’s a start.  Eventually, the federal government will have to get serious and downsize.  I’m sure we can consolidate some of our resources to save money, like private companies do.  For instance, why can’t the government merge some of the 24 federal law enforcement agencies?  See the June, 2012 list for yourself at www.bjs.gov

The federal government won’t ever downsize because our representatives in Congress are addicted to our money and the power it buys!  Congress is spending our money like drunken sailors, and since they won’t voluntarily put a stop to it, we must!  If we can’t remove the money from Washington D.C., it’s time to remove the politicians!  Returning them to their home districts will improve oversight and accountability.  They can use video conferencing to conduct business while remaining accessible to we, the people.  It is time to take back our government!

May God bless you and the United States of America!
