Braxten Cook speaks at Fall speaking contest

On Wednesday, November 4, Hamilton FFA member and Penney High School junior Braxsten Cook participated in the Area 2 Fall Speaking Contest. Competing in the Soil and Water category. He spoke on helping prevent soil erosion.

His speech highlighted several methods that farmers use to keep topsoil from being washed away, such as no-till farming and terracing. He also talked about methods that people can use at home, such as rain gardens and rain barrels. The speech was ended with an explanation of how windbreaks aide in preventing soil from being blown away. Braxsten placed fourth in the Soil and Water category and received a Gold Rating.

“By doing public speaking, it has given me leadership qualities and also helped my interaction skills,” says Braxsten.“This will help me later in life.”
