Bobcat third and fourth grade football champions!
The future of Braymer Football is looking good.
The 3rd/4th grade team won the Youth Football Bantam league championship game on Saturday at Lathrop against Cameron Gold. This is the first time since Terry Parker and Larry Shoe got their heads together and helped start this youth football program in 2009 that a team has played in the championship game and won. It was certainly a dream most of the people that have been involved in this league through the years have had! Congrats to head coach Joe Haley, and coaches Charles Bills, Jared Stone and Hugg Stedem. Thanks for all the support from the fans and cheerleaders. It makes you proud to see the stands full of Braymer Bobcat fans at a football game.
After a slow start, Cameron went ahead of Braymer 13 to 0, the Bobcats didn't hang their heads. They came back fighting hard and didn't let the Dragons score again for the rest of the game. The defense and offense came alive in the second quarter. If you watch this little team, you would be amazed at all the different characters and abilities these young men possess. The coaches of this team have done an excellent job at teaching these boys the game of football offensively and defensively.
The first scoring for Braymer came with a kick-off return of about 20 yards by Carter Offutt. Mason "flash" Whittington helped bring the Cats down to the 30. Jordan Haley, Boden Bills and Kolt Neptune ran the Cats into the red zone. Jordan Haley punched in the touchdown from the 1 yard line and the Cats were on the scoreboard. Boden Bills caught a pass from Jamesyn Haley for the extra point. That offensive line though, we all know without them those running backs aren't getting anywhere. The defense was pumped up now and Boden Bills crunched the runner in the gut, splaying the ball from his arms and Jordan Haley pounced on it. Quarterback Jamesyn Haley connected on a pass to Carter Offet on the 50 yard line and off he went to run in a touchdown leaving the defenders in his dust. Colt Neptune sailed into the end zone for the extra point to put the Cats up 14 to 13 on the score board. Defensive stops by Offut, Bills, Whittington and Rader stopped the Dragons next drive. Haley went for it again and connected with Flash Whittington from the 50 and you couldn't see defenders anywhere. Once again, Neptune walked the ball in for the extra point.
Bobcats went into the half up 21 to 13. Braymer received the kick-off after half on their 39. Haley and Neptune gained yards down the field. Flash took it to the 20, then with those moves took it to the end zone on the next run. Jordan Haley walked in the extra point. The defense stepped up again with Whitington, Stedem, Bills, Offut, Rader and Haley. Braymer got the ball back with a turnover on downs. Runs by Bills, Neptune and Haley set up success for the Flash again. Whitington started from the left side of the field where it looked as if he was stopped, but there he was coming over to the right side of the field led by C. Offut, running past 4 defenders into the end zone. Cameron tried to score again and got down to the 20 yard line. Thanks to Bills and Youtsey's tackles in the backfield, then the defensive line with McCallon and Stedem standing strong, Braymer got the ball back on downs.
That folks is the end of the story. Final score 34 to 13. Amazing young men, amazing to watch, so excited for the future of Braymer Football.
Good job Braymer Bobcats!
