Class 2, District 8 Track & Field at LeBlond

Coach Rick Ross's Penney High Hornets competed in the Class 2, District 8 Track & Field Meet at LeBlond High School in St. Joseph this past Saturday. The top four in each event moved on to participate in the Class 2, Sectional Tournament this weekend. The top 4 at Sectionals will advance to the State Tournament in Jefferson City the following Friday and Saturday.
Derek Dixon led the Hornets to a 2nd place finish behind the Lathrop Mules. Dixon won the 400m dash, the 800m run, and anchored the first place 4 x 400m and the 4 x 800m relay teams.
Brock Swindler also had a great day, winning the long jump, the triple jump, a 2nd place finish in the 300m hurdles, and a member of the first place 4 x 400m relay team.
The Lady Mules also won the women's team title, with the Lady Hornets finishing 4th.
The Lady Hornet team was slowed down do to a ham string injury to Jessica Noble, but did see some personal best performances by her teammates.
