Hamilton Over Chillicothe in Overtime Thriller

Hamilton traveled to Chillicothe last Thursday night in a battle of Hornets, and a battle it was.

Chillicothe led 17-16 after the first 8 minutes, and 34-33 at the half. Penney would out score the host team 15-11 in the third, taking a slim 48-45 lead to the 4th quarter. With 20 seconds remaining in the final period of regulation, Korby Ford hit his 4th 3-pointer tying the score at 64. Chillicothe was unable to break the tie and the teams were headed for overtime and another 4 minutes of play. Half way through the overtime, Ford hit his 5th 3-pointer of the game to give the visiting Hornets the lead for good. Ford would later hit 2 free throws with 25 seconds to go, and Latroy Harper clinched the win with 2 pressure packed free throws and only 8 seconds left on the game clock to give Penney High an exciting 78-75 overtime victory.

Ford led Hamilton with 24 points and was perfect from the charity stripe going 7 for 7. Telly and Latroy Harper each scored 16, Mason McFall made 14, including 5 of 5 on free throws, and Jaran Richman, who led the team in assists with 4, completed the scoring with 9 (2 for 2 at the line). Derek Dixon was the only substitute entering the game for the visitors. Chillicothe's Cade Snyder led all scorers with 31.

Both teams did a very good job taking care of the ball with only 8 turnovers each. Chillicothe out rebounded Penney, 28-26, but the difference in this game was at the free throw line where Hamilton made 22 of 24 compared to Chillicothe's 5 of 12.

Rick Ross and his Hamilton Hornets record improves to 10-2.
