Hornets are KCI Co-Champions
The Hamilton Hornets hosted the West Platte Bluejays last Tuesday on Senior Night with the opportunity to tie for the KCI Crown in the balance.
The first quarter ended in a 17-15 lead by Penney High who had a balanced scoring attack. The two point lead remained the same at the half with each team scoring just 9 points in the 2nd quarter. Coach Ross and his Hornets came out of the locker room to out score the Bluejays 26-14, again with balanced scoring from four players. Hamilton would go on to coast to a 72-52 victory and a share of the KCI title with Lawson at 6-1.
Senior Telly Harper led all scorers with 21, secured 3 rebounds, assisted on 3 buckets, and stole the ball twice. Latroy Harper was next with 17 points including one 3-pointer, stole the ball a team tying 4 times, handing out 2 assists, and rebounding the ball once. Jaran Richman scored 12 points including 2 for 2 from behind the arc and 2 for 2 at the free throw line, led the team in assists with 6, tied for the team lead with 6 rebounds, and stole the ball twice. Senior Korby Ford scored 5 points, tied for the team lead in steals with 4, delivered 5 assists, and rebounded the ball twice. Senior Mason McFall, who suffered an ankle injury in the game, scored 4 points and snared 4 rebounds. Derek Dixon scored 4 points, hitting all 4 free throw attempts, grabbed 6 rebounds, and assisted on 1 basket. Senior Garrison Dunham hit a 3-pointer on his only shot attempt in the game, senior Drake Brown made his only shot attempt for 2 points and was credited for 1 rebound, and Andy Ernat also scored 2 points on one field goal attempt and had 1 rebound. Wes Pratt made his only attempt for a field goal in scoring 2 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and handed out 1 assist.
West Platte was led by Brett Shepardson with 14. Penney High made four 3-pointers and hit 10 of 14 free throws. The Jays hit 5 three's and 1 of 4 free throws.
