Lady Dragons End Hamilton's Season

Jordan Richman's Lady Hornets played the Mid Buchanan Lady Dragons in the first round of the Class 2, District 16 Basketball Tournament in Maysville on Monday night.

The Dragons jumped on the Hornets in the first quarter leading 22-7 heading into the next 8 minutes of play. Mid Buchanan would take a 36-19 lead into the locker room.

Penney High would battle to get back into the game during the second half, but the Dragons kept the margin at double digits, leading 47-33 at the start of the 4th quarter on the way to a 61-45 Mid Buch victory.

Senior Meredith Clevenger ended her high school career, leading Hamilton with 7 steals, scoring 12 points, and grabbing 5 rebounds. Tegan Bruce led the team in points with 13 and rebounds with 8 to go with 3 steals. McKauley Prothero scored 10 points, snared 7 rebounds, and stole the ball once. Kassie Moore was next, making 9 points and securing 7 rebounds. Mariah Blackburn made a free throw, stole the ball 5 times, and had 4 rebounds. Mati Park registered 5 steals and 3 rebounds, and Cydnee Kipp was credited with a rebound. Mid Buchanan's Jill Rumpf led all scorers with 33. Penney made 13 of 25 free throws compared to 7 for 20 by the Dragons.

The young Lady Hornet season concludes with a 5-17 record.
