Mules Defeat Hornets in KCI Tournament

Coming off the M.S.H.S.A.A. Class I Championship football game in St. Louis and just a week of practice before their first game of the basketball season, the Penney Hornets lost their first round game of the 2015 KCI Tournament in Hamilton this past Saturday, 48-46 to the Lathrop Mules.

Penney led 16-10 after the opening quarter and 25-21 at the half. The Mules were able to tie the game at the end of the third period 35 all, and out scored Hamilton 13 to 11 in the 4th to get the narrow 2 point win. The Hornets LaTroy Harper led all scorers with 17 points. Next in scoring for Penney was Mason McFall with 12, Jaran Richman and Telly Harper each with 7, and Korby Ford with 3. Other Hamilton players who seen action were Wesley Pratt, Andy Ernat, Drake Brown, Brock Swindler, and Reed Henderson. Connor Vanderkoot led the Mules with 16. 

The Hornets made 12 2-point field goals to Lathrop's 4, but the Mules hit ten 3-point buckets to Hamilton's 6, and made 10 of 15 free throws to Penney's 4 of 12.
